This gorgeous kilim from Black Sea region of Turkey is made with hemp and goat hair.
This one is black goat hair and white cotton tweed.
Two narrow woven pieces were sewn together as the looms were narrow so that the nomadic weavers could take them as they traveled to warmer climates in the winter.
Colorful jijim symbols were included into the design and had special meaning for the villagers.
Actual size is 5’9”x8’5”
It has been professionally washed and restored. This is a vintage two-piece kilim and any appearance of darker areas are due to more black goat hair used in that particular area.
