This gorgeous kilim from Black Sea region of Turkey is made with hemp and goat hair.
It is pale periwinkle blue, lavender, green, cream and a multitude of various pastel colors.
Made from cotton, wool, and pure hemp which stays cool to the touch in warm climates.
Reminiscent of French Provençal design. Originally used for grain sacks, It is three pieces sewn together by the villagers as their looms were only a certain width which made it easier to take them with them as they traveled to cooler climates in the summertime.
It has one small patch on the border which was done by the villagers as well. We left this in place as we think it is endearing. It also has “abrash” which is variations in the colors of the wool hemp and cotton as shown in photos.
Actual size is 5’5” x 8’7”
It has been professionally washed and restored.
