This gorgeous kilim from Turkey is made with pure natural goat hair and wool.
This carpet is called Chadur... tent covers used by nomadic tribes in the mountains of Tarsus, see last photo:).
Natural goat hair comes in various shades and intensities of brown and cream resulting in a gorgeous brown “tweed”.
This is reddish brown in one half of one side. The rest is coffee brown. It has diamond shapes with pink lines running through the middle on one side which was done to differentiate between one another’s tent.
One end has a cream braided border with ties.
This is 2 pieces sewn together making one large nearly square piece. It’s beautiful the way it is sewn together with a very intricate stitching down the middle in alternating colors.
It’s authentic and vintage and will not appeal to everyone but for those appreciating true nomadic handiwork and a storied piece.
Actual size is 7’2” x 9’3”
It has been professionally washed and restored blocked and stretched..
