This vintage runner rug is from the Kurdish region of Turkey. It is handmade using a cotton foundation and Orlon weave. This is an impressive piece as when the weaver found Orlon and its bright bold colors the wealthier family bought enough to make a few bespoke rugs. This would eventually add to the dowry of the woman who wove it. Typically the colors in runners indicative to this region are variations of pinks and reds
This is an unusual rendering of a Herki runner with the bright vibrant, pinks, purple, orange, yellow, white, tan and every color imaginable. It’s funky, eclectic and beautiful .. reminiscent of colors popular in 1960’s America...
