This gorgeous kilim from Turkey is made with pure natural goat hair and wool.
This carpet is called Chadur... tent covers used by nomadic tribes in the mountains of Tarsus. Their looms are normally 3 feet wide as they travel to warmer climates in winter and so they often end up stitching the pieces together to make them fit as tent coverings.
Natural goat hair comes in various shades and intensities of brown and cream resulting in a gorgeous brown “tweed”.
This is three pieces sewn together making one large piece.. there are various intensities of brown, tan, and cream in these pieces.
It has hand sewn patches which we left intact. It also has a few strands of red in the weave!
It’s authentic and vintage and will not appeal to everyone but for those appreciating true nomadic handiwork and a storied piece.
